Sander Van Doorn knows the value of careful production and meticulous composing: the Dutch DJ-producer spent well over a year perfecting and tweaking his new song, “Neon.” The entrancing track burrows into memory with spooky whistles and synth gymnastics – then an unexpected cello lead takes over halfway through, rocketing upwards as it warps into an electronic explosion.

“To me, ‘Neon’ is one of the most special records I’ve ever released. It’s one of those tracks where everything just fell into place when producing the first version,” Van Doorn tells Rolling Stone. “It took me one and a half years, combining several arrangements, to make it sound the way it does today with keeping the main cello lead exactly like the first version. ‘Neon’ reflects a great part of today’s dance scene – combining analog and real instruments with a digital sound, giving the genre more depth and dimension without losing the essence: making people dance.”

“Neon” is out July 15th on Doorn Records.
