San Fermin Look for Common Ground on ‘Oh Darling’ – Premiere

Brooklyn chamber pop group look to the subway for inspiration

San Fermin, the chamber pop project of Brooklyn musician Ellis Ludwig-Leone, will release their debut self-titled record on September 17th via Downtown Records (you can pre-order the LP now). Inspired by Ernest Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises, Ludwig-Leone crafted the record as if it were a dialogue between a man and a woman; and now you can watch the simple black and white clip for the gorgeous “Oh Darling,” which Ludwig-Leone says takes place as the two characters realize they won’t find any common ground.

As for the music itself, Ludwig-Leone says the song was inspired by chorales he heard performed by a local group at the Brooklyn Atlantic Terminal subway stop. “I loved the ritualized feeling of the back-and-forth between soloist and ensemble,” he says. “The subway station there was this disconnect between the choir and their busy surroundings that added a weird depth to the experience.”
