Sam Smith ‘Can Speak Again,’ Reschedules Postponed Shows

Sam Smith has regained his voice after undergoing surgery last month for a vocal cord hemorrhage he suffered during an April show in Sydney. The singer also announced a string of rescheduled Australian concerts.

“I can speak again!” the singer proclaimed in all caps in an Instagram post accompanying a picture of Ariel from Disney’s The Little Mermaid at the moment she regains her own power of speech.

On Twitter, Smith apologized again to his Australian fans for his “bleeding throat,” but happily announced that his rescheduled shows — which begin November 28th in Perth — had been upgraded to “bloody arenas.” Tickets for those shows go on sale June 17th.

In a separate Instagram post, Smith also thanked his doctor and wrote, “You truly truly truly don’t know what you got until you lose it. I have fallen in love with music all over again over this past month, and more than ever I feel so blessed to be able to sing and do what I love every day.”

After suffering the hemorrhage in Sydney, Smith revealed that he had been feeling “vocally exhausted for a while.” Along with canceling the remainder off his Australian tour dates, Smith also scrubbed sets at Hangout Music Festival and Rock in Rio USA, as well as several European shows.

Smith is scheduled to return to the stage on July 3rd at Thetford Forest in Suffolk, England. He will tour Europe and North America throughout much of the summer and fall, including stops at Forecastle Festival, Lollapalooza and Outside Lands.

The singer has been touring extensively behind his 2014 debut LP, In the Lonely Hour. Earlier this year, Smith garnered several Grammy awards including Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year. The latter two were for his single “Stay With Me.”
