Jimmy Kimmel Live! returned to Brooklyn Monday to kick off five nights of episodes taped at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, so it was only appropriate that New Yorker Ryan Adams welcome the Los Angeles-based show with a cover of Taylor Swift‘s “Welcome to New York.” As the first musical guest for Kimmel’s Brooklyn residency, Adams busted out his Replacements-fueled rendition of Taylor Swift‘s 1989 opening track.
Earlier Monday, Adams and Swift discussed songwriting and the rocker’s version of 1989 in a conversation for GQ. “You know when actors say a line, they say a sentence, but they say it with different emphasis on different words and they completely change it? That’s what you did with my album,” Swift said of Adams’ 1989.
Kimmel’s Brooklyn visit continues Tuesday with guest Jay Z and music from tonight’s all-star Tidal X: 1020 concert. Over the course of his “Back to Brooklyn” week, Kimmel will also have musical guests Big Grams, Esperanza Spalding and Public Enemy.
