Rolling Stone has set up a page on Foursquare with a guide to notable locations in rock history in Austin, Texas just in time for the SXSW festival – and if you follow us on Foursquare, you’ll get the lowdown on each of these spots when you check in. We’re talking about places like Janis Joplin’s Sixties residence, the original location of the Austin City Limits studios, the Daniel Johnston mural, the Top Notch drive-in frequented by characters in Richard Linklater’s Dazed and Confused and the venues where Lucinda Williams, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Willie Nelson played their early gigs.

We’ve also put together a guide to notable locations rock in New York City, such as Joey Ramone’s old apartment building in Forest Hills, Queens, the buildings on the cover of Led Zeppelin’s Physical Graffiti, the childhood homes of LL Cool J and Darryl “D.M.C.” McDaniels of Run D.M.C., Lady Gaga’s favorite Tex-Mex restaurant and the venues where Bob Dylan, the Velvet Underground, Kiss and Madonna got their start.
