Philadelphia hip-hop producer RJD2 has released a glimmering, ebullient new single, “The Sheboygan Left,” set to appear on his upcoming album, Dame Fortune.

The mostly instrumental cut opens with a funky, guttural groove that builds to a angelic chorus of synth stabs, wordless vocals and a subtle, twinkling guitar line. After the song temporarily tapers off, guitars returns to guide another instrumental rise, which bursts again with exuberant exaltation.

“The Sheboygan Left” follows Dame Fortune‘s lead single, “Peace of What,” a thought-provoking, soulful cut boasting vocals from singer Jordan Brown. Dame Fortune will also feature appearances from vocalist Son Little (a.k.a. Aaron Livingston) and frequent collaborator Phonte. The LP is set to arrive on March 25th via RJD2’s own Electrical Connections label.

Dame Fortune follows RJD2’s 2015 collaboration with Philly-via-Atlanta Rapper STS, STS x RJD2, and marks his first proper solo album since 2013’s More Is Than Isn’t. In a statement, RJ said the new album was inspired by Philadelphia’s deep soul tradition, but retains his idiosyncratic hip-hop-leaning style and experimental streak.

RJD2 has a handful of concerts scheduled for the coming months, starting with a February 20th gig at the Empire Garage in Austin. More tour dates are expected to be announced throughout the year.
