Rivers Cuomo Plays Sleazy Preacher in Weezer’s ‘Thank God for Girls’ Video
Weezer have followed up their gluttonous, cannoli-overloaded lyric video for new single “Thank God for Girls” with a proper music video that appropriately takes Weezer fans to church. In the Scantron-directed video, frontman Rivers Cuomo plays a sleazy evangelist who takes his congregation’s donations to a backroom poker game.
After losing all their money, Reverend Cuomo and his minions, played by Weezer, return to the church and continue to drain the pockets of their followers. On a return visit to the seedy poker den, Cuomo wins a huge pot, only to be exposed as a cheater and sparking a huge brawl. The “Thank God for Clip” playfully examines the duplicitous nature of televangelists in a similarly tongue-in-cheek manner as Last Week Tonight.
Weezer also recently released a second new single, a crunchy, throwback track titled “Do You Wanna Get High?” Both songs are believed to be destined for the follow-up to the band’s 2014 LP Everything Will Be Alright in the End, but Weezer have yet to make a formal announcement about an upcoming new album.
