Rilo Kiley, the indie rock band fronted by Jenny Lewis, has apparently broken up. In an interview with Spinner, guitarist and singer Blake Sennett says that he abandoned the band after they finished touring for their 2007 album Under the Blacklight. “I just felt like there was a lot of deception, disloyalty, greed and things I don’t really want to submit myself to,” Sennett said. “I had related that frustration to music but I just thought, ‘I’m not going to put myself in that position again,’ so I said, ‘Fuck that, I can’t do this anymore.'”

Sennett did not call out any of his former bandmates in particular, but implies that his collaboration with everyone involved had run its course. He was particularly disappointed in Under the Blacklight, which he admits to not liking very much. Though that record is likely to be the band’s last, Sennett says that the group have a backlog of unreleased material. “I think we’re going to try and release a two-disc set of 40 songs, or something.”

Since the other three members of the band – Lewis, Pierre de Reeder and Jason Boesel – have not mentioned anything in public about a break up, there is some possibility that the band may continue on without Sennett.

The members of Rilo Kiley have kept very busy since they wrapped up their tour for Under the Blacklight. Lewis released her second solo album, Acid Tongue, in 2008, and has been collaborating with her boyfriend Johnathan Rice as the duo Jenny and Johnny. Sennet recently released Bury Me in My Rings, the third record by his band the Elected, and Boesel put out his first solo album, Hustler’s Son, on the Team-Love label in 2010.
