Rihanna Looks ‘Towards the Sun’ in New Song for Animated Film

Prior to the release of DreamWorks’ Home, the animated film’s star Rihanna has released the first song off the soundtrack. Titled “Towards the Sun,” the track showcases the singer’s falsetto on the epic, empowering pop tune. Listen below.
Home, due in theaters March 27th, is a 3D animated comedy featuring vocal talents from Rihanna alongside Jim Parsons, Steve Martin and Jennifer Lopez. The film is adapted from Adam Rex’s children’s book The True Meaning of Smekday.
“Towards the Sun” showcases a more optimistic and brighter side of Rihanna than darker recent albums. “Turn your face towards the sun,” she sings. “Let the shadows fall behind you.” It’s Rihanna’s second song this year following “FourFiveSeconds,” her collaboration with Kanye West and Paul McCartney that will appear on both Rihanna and West’s new albums. New LPs from both artists are reportedly due this year. According to Variety, the Home star has penned an entire concept album based on the movie, but there is no word on whether that will be the film’s actual soundtrack.
Rihanna debuted “FourFiveSeconds” live at the Grammy Awards with both West and McCartney. She had previously performed with West at a pre-Super Bowl party, and a joint tour featuring the pair may be in the works thanks to a fluke announcement by Live Nation Finland for a July date in Estonia.
Home is not Rihanna’s first crack at acting. She had a cameo in last year’s Annie remake and played herself in 2013’s This Is the End and 2006’s Bring It On: All or Nothing. In 2012, she had a role in Battleship alongside Taylor Kitsch, Liam Neeson and Alexander Skarsgard.
