Rihanna Accompanies Chris Brown to Court Hearing

Rihanna accompanied Chris Brown to court yesterday, The Associated Press reports, blowing him a kiss from the front row at her on-again, off-again boyfriend’s latest court hearing to determine whether he has complied with the terms of his probation for assaulting the pop star in 2009.
Prosecutors claim there is no compelling evidence that Brown completed a sentence of six months of community service. Los Angeles County Court judge James Brandlin asked for more information regarding Brown’s community service and scheduled another hearing in two months. He also ordered Brown to remain on probation until the April 5th hearing.

In a recent Rolling Stone cover story, Rihanna said that she and Brown had reconciled in the years since the R&B singer brutally beat and choked her in a car on the eve of the Grammys in 2009. “I decided it was more important for me to be happy,” she said. “I wasn’t going to let anybody’s opinion get in the way of that. Even if it’s a mistake, it’s my mistake. After being tormented for so many years, being angry and dark, I’d rather just live my truth and take the backlash. I can handle it.”
Prosecutors asked the judge to order Brown to re-do his 180 days of service, citing “sloppy documentation and at worst fraudulent reporting” regarding the sentence he reportedly completed in Virginia. They also pointed to a recent fight with Frank Ocean over a parking spot and a 2011 incident in which Brown threw a chair through window after an interview on Good Morning America as indications of continued anger-management issues.
A lawyer for Brown, Mark Geragos, accused prosecutors of making “scurrilous, libelous and defamatory statements” against his client and that he’d seek sanctions against the district attorney’s office.
Brown and Rihanna are each nominated nominated at the 55th Grammy Awards, which takes place Sunday.
