Reviewed: Lady Gaga’s Button-Pushing ‘Judas’; My Morning Jacket’s Blissful New Single

This week’s slate of Rolling Stone reviews is very heavy on new singles from major artists. First and foremost is “Judas,” the second taste from Lady Gaga‘s forthcoming album Born This Way. Jon Dolan says the song finds Gaga in “button-pushing, morals-tweaking mode,” but “even when she plays divider, she’s still a uniter, working her black magic without sacrificing a dollop of Earth-striding anthemic woosh.”

Also, Will Hermes reviewed My Morning Jacket‘s new song “Circuital,” which he calls a “philosophical stalemate whose sonic bliss-out feels too short”; Jody Rosen panned Jennifer Lopez‘s collaboration with Lil Wayne for its painfully insipid lyrics and bland singsong tune; and Dolan says that the New Kids on the Block joining forces with the Backstreet Boys on their NKOTBSB single “Don’t Turn Out the Lights” is “like Moses teaming up with Jesus.”

On the albums front, Jody Rosen salutes the pop savvy, funky rhythms and dynamic vocals on tUnE-yArDs’ new album w h o k i l l, and Barry Walters is impressed by of Montreal’s experiments with extreme noise on their new EP thecontrollersphere.
