Record Store Day has enlisted St. Vincent to serve as the annual event’s 2017 ambassador. The artist (real name Annie Clark) is the first female rocker to hold that title in Record Store Day’s 10-year history.
St. Vincent’s ambassadorship was revealed in a humorous Funny or Die video where she mistakes Record Store Day for the non-existent nation “Recorstorda.”
“It is with deep honor and humility that I accept this ambassadorship. Rest assured I do not take my duties lightly,” St. Vincent said of being named RSD’s 2017 ambassador.
St. Vincent is a frequent Record Store Day contributor, offering up a red seven-inch single to independent record stores in 2012, dropping an exclusive ten-inch in 2015 and taking part in a Vinyl Tuesday panel.
“Being the Ambassador of Record Store Day is meant to be fun and a little silly, and I think it’s fantastic that we’re celebrating this year with a woman who can be both those things while being a respected musician and record store regular as well,” Record Store Day co-founder Carrie Colliton said in a statement. “It’s a damn good fit.”
