The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office said that Benzino, whose real name is Raymond Scott, had been driving an SUV down Route 3 south of Boston yesterday just before noon, heading to a funeral Mass for his mother at a church in Plymouth. Benzino’s nephew, 36-year-old Gai Scott, pulled up alongside him in another car and reportedly fired several shots into the SUV. Benzino was taken to the Duxbury Police Department before being transferred to a hospital; Scott was arrested and charged with assault with intent to murder.
“There has been growing family tension between Raymond Scott and Gai Scott,” Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz said in a statement to news channel WCBV.
Before joining the cast of the Love & Hip-Hop reality series on VH1, Benzino was a co-owner of hip-hop and culture magazine The Source. He left in 2006 after pulling the magazine into his high-profile feud with Eminem, and went on to found a new publication, Hip-Hop Weekly.
On its website Sunday, Hip-Hop Weekly posted photos of its 48-year-old CEO at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, Massachusetts, his bandaged arm in a sling, along with the news that Benzino is in stable condition. Scott is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in the Plymouth District Court.
