Rae Sremmurd unveiled a nimble, menacing new banger, “Look Alive,” on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show Thursday.
The cut finds Mississippi brothers Swae Lee and Slim Jimmy delivering their quintessential mix of punchy bars and disconcertingly sweet hooks over a Mike WiLL Made-It beat that balances heavy trap percussion and a rumbling bass with tip-toeing synth and piano loops.
“Look Alive” is set to appear on Rae Sremmurd’s upcoming album, SremmLife 2, which has yet to be given a release date. The song follows previously released cuts “Over Here” and “By Chance,” both of which also featured production from Mike WiLL Made-It.
SremmLife 2 will follow Rae Sremmurd’s 2015 debut, SremmLife, which was released via Mike WiLL’s Ear Drummer Records (the group were the first to sign to the label, and took their name from the label’s spelled backwards).
“We kept everything raw with them,” WiLL told Rolling Stone of the duo. “Their energy is so good and their character is so tight that they can crossover into popular culture easily. I look at them like a hood ‘NSync. It’s like pop, but it’s pop in its ratchet-est form.”
