Questlove’s ‘Shuffle Culture’ at the Brooklyn Academy of Music

“The idea is to re-create the experience of someone flipping through their collection of music,” Ahmir Thompson, a.k.a. the Roots’ drummer and bandleader Questlove, told the New York Daily News about his two-night residency, Shuffle Culture, held at the Brooklyn Academy of Music Thursday and Friday night.
Thompson brought along a lot of talented friends to Shuffle Culture, such as comedian and musician Reggie Watts, the legendary human drum machine Rahzel, porn star and artist Sasha Gray, and avant-rock mainstays Deerhoof, all trying to create in a live setting the quick-switch listening of our daily, ear-budded lives.
“Steve Jobs’ iPod invention basically redefined the word shuffle by allowing us to carry an entire record collection inside a small digital box,” Thompson told the Daily News. Let’s take a look at how fans reacted to his analog iPod.

So Culture Shuffle was a mixed bag. Best part was the human beat box duet accompanied by Questlove on the drums. Also, Sassy and Nat K Cole

@BAM_Brooklyn Very nice! My eight year old says, “the MPC was cool! …and the drumming.” I concur. #ShuffleCulture
