According to Deadline.com, Q-Tip is partnering with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill to develop a TV series based on the rapper’s experiences with the Native Tongues collective, a loose late Eighties alliance between his A Tribe Called Quest and the Jungle Brothers, De La Soul, Queen Latifah, Monie Love and more. The trio’s show will reflect on the posse’s friendship and how their music influenced younger rappers.

Why The Low End Theory Is One of the 500 Greatest Albums

Native Tongues blazed alternative rap trails with their laid-back, witty and progressive styles. Innovative beats and enlightened lyrics evident on The Low End Theory and All Hail the Queen paved the way for the jazz rap of Digable Planets’ Reachin’ (A New Refutation of Time and Space) and Blowout Comb, Us3’s Hand on the Torch and other outside-the-box hip-hop artists to come.

The dynamic duo of DiCaprio and Hill are currently featured in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, a three-hour juggernaut about Wall Street scumbags that Peter Travers calls “hilarious and scathing.” For Dicaprio’s turn as broker Jordan Belfort, Travers saves special treatment: “[His] swaggering, swinging-dick performance is the wildest damn thing he’s ever put onscreen.” No wonder, then, that he thinks the three-time Oscar nominee is worthy of an Academy Award.
