While Sean “Puffy” Combs acquittal on March 16th of gun possession and bribery charges stemming from a 1999 nightclub shooting at Club New York ended one serious legal battle for the rapper, several more remain, including the most recent lawsuit slapped against Combs by a Detroit reporter.
Roger Mills, a syndicated television host, filed a lawsuit against Combs for assault, destruction of property, intentional infliction of emotional distress and a civil conspiracy on March 22nd in Wayne County Circuit Court stemming from an incident back in August 1999. Named in the suit are Combs and Bad Boy Entertainment, among other associates of Combs.
The suit states that Combs approached Mills about appearing on his show. During the interview, Mills asked Combs about rumors that he was involved in the death of Notorious B.I.G. According to the suit, Combs became irate and stopped the interview. A representative of Combs asked to buy the tape from Mills and when Mills refused, he was assaulted by several members of Combs entourage and his video camera was destroyed.
Mills is seeking unspecified damages. This suit is one of several Combs is currently facing, including a lawsuit filed by his limo driver for emotional distress relating to the nightclub shooting.
