Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Alex Giannascoli — AKA Alex G — has announced his seventh full-length album, Beach Music. In advance of the October 9th release date, Giannascoli is previewing his new material with the moving new track “Bug.” Listen below.
The prolific musician — who has released all seven of his full-length albums since 2010 — took a little more time with crafting his follow-up to last year’s DSU. In between his intense touring schedule that took him on the road with artists like Elvis Depressedly and Cymbals Eat Guitars, Giannascoli wrote and recorded Beach Music between fall 2014 and spring 2015.
On “Bug,” Giannascoli bears a strong resemblance to Elliott Smith, without the sparseness. With lyrics like “bug in the crosshair, you stay there,” the song builds on where the emotive DSU left off. “Every song is coming from a different place,” he writes in a statement. “It branches off in all these directions, but it has its own sound. It’s not something I do intentionally, but I’m the common thread.”
Pre-orders of Beach Music on limited edition colored vinyl will come with an exclusive bootleg LP, titled Alex G Live at The Headroom. Bandcamp pre-orders will also include a limited edition cassette of the new album.
Folowing an album release show on October 8th at Brooklyn venue Baby’s All Right, Giannascoli will head out on European and North American tours with acts Title Fight, Spencer Radcliffe, Girlpool and Eskimeaux.
