Prince Duets With Zooey Deschanel on New Song ‘FALLINLOVE2NITE’

“Anybody want to fall in love tonight?,” Prince asks at the start of his funky, synth-laden new song “FALLINLOVE2NITE” before Zooey Deschanel picks up the hook. His Royal Badness had premiered the song on the post–Super Bowl episode of The New Girl, but the show only presented a snippet of the track. Musically, it’s an EDM-infused pop update of Prince’s helium-voiced late-Eighties “Camille” persona, heard on songs like “If I Was Your Girlfriend” and “Strange Relationship.” But it has its own unique ebullience and Deschanel’s voice fits right in on the song’s seductive, good-times mien.
Prince’s ‘Plectrumelectrum’ and Spring’s Must-Hear Albums
It’s not clear whether or not the track will appear on Prince’s forthcoming record Plectrumelectrum, but a report on Prince fan site DrFunkenberry.com said that the single was given to iHeartRadio via major label Epic Records. But it’s also the latest in a series of songs to come out via his 3rdEyeGirl Twitter account, which last year revealed a number of new tracks including another funky number entitled “Da Bourgeoisie.”
Prince’s 15 Best Post-Eighties Deep Cuts
In addition to his appearance on The New Girl, Prince made a much lengthier and, in a way, rarer television appearance when he spent a whole hour on Arsenio earlier this month. On that show, he performed the new track “FunkNRoll,” the Family’s “Mutiny” and his B-side “She’s Always in My Hair.” He also assisted an audience member on the show in breaking up with his girlfriend, using some very Princely turns of phrase: “In this relationship, things are much harder than in the single world,” he said. “In this life, you’re on your own. Keegan, this is what it sounds like when Steven breaks up with you.” Maybe Keegan wants to fall in love 2nite?
