Prince Covers David Bowie’s ‘Heroes’ at Marathon Toronto Shows

Rocker also performs Bill Withers, Bob Marley tracks at Piano and a Microphone Tour stop

Prince covered David Bowie's "Heroes" for the first time during the first of his two Toronto concerts Friday

Prince covered David Bowie‘s “Heroes” for the first time during the first of his two Toronto concerts Friday that saw the singer perform 55 songs over the course of the back-to-back shows.

In addition to the Bowie tribute, Prince’s early show at Toronto’s Sony Centre for the Performing Arts – part of his stripped-down Piano and a Microphone tour – also featured renditions of Bill Withers’ “Use Me,” Bob Marley and the Wailers’ “Waiting in Vain” and Vince Guaraldi’s Peanuts theme “Linus and Lucy.” The late show audience witnessed Prince play Joni Mitchell’s “A Case of You,” with both concerts also receiving a heaping of classics and obscure cuts.

Prince previously paid tribute to his former protégé Vanity during a Piano and a Microphone stop in Australia. The rocker’s intimate treks comes as Prince revealed at an announcement party in New York that he’s currently working on his memoir, set for publication in 2017 and tentatively titled The Beautiful Ones. The “unconventional” tome finds Prince writing in his own words about his family life, the “people, places and ideas that fired his imagination” as well as the inspiration behind many of his classic songs.
