A plane carrying Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera has gone missing in Mexico, the Associated Press reports.
The small plane took off from the city of Monterrey around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, scheduled to arrive in Toluca, outside Mexico City, about an hour later. A search is underway for the plane and the seven people believed to be onboard, including Rivera’s lawyer, publicist, makeup artist and the flight crew.

Rivera had just given a concert for thousands of fans in Monterrey before boarding the plane. The 43 year-old singer, born and raised in Long Beach, California, is known as the “Diva of the Banda” and recently won Female Artist of the Year and Banda Album of the Year in the Billboard Mexican Music Awards. A mother of five and grandmother of two, Rivera also stars in several reality shows and appeared in the movie Filly Brown.
Update: The AP is now reporting that the wreckage of a small plane believed to be Rivera’s was found in northern Mexico. Transportation and Communications Minister Gerardo Ruiz Esparza said that there appeared to be no survivors.
