Pink Floyd to Launch Massive Vinyl Reissue Campaign

Pink Floyd will begin reissuing their discography on vinyl this spring. The band will be putting out the LPs via its own Pink Floyd Records, in association with Columbia.

The first set of releases, which arrive on June 3rd, will be the band’s first four full-lengths: 1967’s The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, 1968’s A Saucerful of Secrets and 1969’s More soundtrack and Ummagumma double-LP. The group’s label will put out more vinyl throughout the year at regular intervals.

Each LP will come out on 180-gram vinyl in an effort to preserve its fidelity. The band is also promising packaging that replicates the original release.

The first set of releases were mastered by James Guthrie and Joel Plante, who have collaborated with Pink Floyd and their members for several years, and Bernie Grundman, who has mastered several notable albums including Thriller, Purple Rain and The Chronic.

Pink Floyd put out their final studio album, the mostly instrumental The Endless River, in 2014. Since then, singer David Gilmour put out a new solo album, Rattle That Lock, last year. He mounted a short tour of the United States, during which he played songs from throughout Pink Floyd’s career, this year.

Former Pink Floyd singer-songwriter Roger Waters, who parted ways with the group in 1985, has continued to play the band’s music at his solo shows. Between 2010 and 2013, he staged 219 productions of the band’s landmark 1979 double-LP The Wall, and he subsequently released a concert film of the production. He’s set to take part in Desert Trip, a three-day festival on the same grounds where Coachella is held, in October. The other artists performing include the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Neil Young and the Who.
