Phoebe Ryan may have punky green hair, famous fans and knack for mash-ups, but she’s still down to earth, all about her fans and maintaining a positive outlook on life. She chatted with us before taking the stage at STK Rooftop Downtown for the first Rolling Stone Rooftop Series event in partnership with Lunazul Tequila.
“I care so much about what I’m doing in the moment,” the 25-year-old explained. “I have very high standards about what music I’m putting out, about what I’m trying to say…I just try to be super positive…I’m not always successful, but I try really hard to be as positive as possible.”
With a new album, Boyz N Poizn, and a tour on the horizon, the New Jersey native knows a thing or two about writing hits.
“Hit songs should be simple, the message needs to be very deep but you have to say it in the clearest way, in the most honest, in the most straightforward way,” she said. “I think that that just grabs people at the heartstrings—you just latch onto it immediately.”
