Phish Plan Multiple Residencies for 2014 Summer Tour
Now more than three decades into their career, jam-rock vets Phish don’t necessarily need a new album to launch a full-scale tour. And unless the group has prepped Wingsuit – the unrecorded album the group performed at their Halloween gig in Atlantic City, New Jersey last year – for an official release, such will be the case this summer when they play 26 dates, including a few residencies, in April and throughout July and August.
The band’s first performance of the year will take place at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival on April 26th, but the heavy touring begins in July with a gig in Mansfield, Mass. The tour includes multiple-night runs at Saratoga Springs, N.Y., New York City, Chicago, Columbia, Md., Portsmouth, Va. and the group’s fourth annual Labor Day weekend residency in Commerce City, Colo.
Tickets go on sale March 27th, with the cost of admission including a free, fully mixed MP3 download of the evening’s concert from the band’s LivePhish.com website.
Last year, Phish phrontman Trey Anastasio told Rolling Stone that the band tours so heavily in the summer because it’s what works best for their families. “The whole gang goes on tour, so there’s maybe 10 kids,” he said. “It’s like a big caravan, and we all go out in the summer because right now that’s what works for us. It’s really fun – everybody’s backstage.”
