Perry Farrell Jams with Taylor Hawkins at Lollapalooza Chile

Jane’s Addiction frontman joins drummer’s cover band Chevy Metal

The Foo FightersTaylor Hawkins brought a host of surprises to Lollapalooza Chile yesterday, not least by showing up in the first place and unexpectedly performing on the Kidzapalooza stage with this Seventies rock cover band Chevy Metal. Fellow Foo Fighter Nate Mendel also joined the band onstage, but Hawkins got a big treat himself when Jane’s Addiction frontman and Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell stepped up to the mic. Ferrell led Chevy Metal into Jane’s Addiction’s “Mountain Song” from their 1988 album Nothing’s Shocking, and Hawkins – a huge Jane’s Addiction fan – pounds away behind the kit with a big, gleeful grin.

Lollapalooza 2013 Lineup: Nine Inch Nails, the Cure, Mumford & Sons

“I’ve been lucky enough to play with some of my heroes  just another day in rock & roll fantasy camp for Taylor Hawkins,” the drummer tells Rolling Stone. “It was an honor to perform with Perry, the man who changed rock & roll for the better.”

Lollapalooza will visit Chicago’s Grant Park from August 2nd to 4th. Nine Inch Nails, Mumford & Sons, the Cure, Phoenix, Vampire Weekend, the Killers and a reunited Postal Service are among the acts set to perform.
