Pearl Jam Rock the Free World With Carrie Brownstein, St. Vincent

Song was part of the band’s second encore at a Dallas show

Pearl Jam unleashed a powerful six-song second encore when they stopped at Dallas over the weekend on their Lightning Bolt tour, pulling out favorites “Alive,” “Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town,” “The Real Me,” “Do the Evolution,” “Indifference” and their long-standing Neil Young cover, “Rockin’ in the Free World.”

In introducing “Free Word,” Eddie Vedder noted that they had “two really, really great people in our lives” at the show and then brought up Portlandia star and Sleater-Kinney alumna Carrie Brownstein and “her friend,” Annie Clark of St. Vincent. Brownstein helped out on guitar, with Clark adding vocals and taking the second verse herself. It was one of those special Pearl Jam moments where they made a song that already rocks hard rock even harder. (Skip to the 19:00 minute mark if you want to hit this moment right away.)

Pearl Jam is currently in the midst of their Lightning Bolt tour, covering North American arenas. The band announced this past Friday that SiriusXM will be airing select concerts from the tour on Pearl Jam radio. The album has yielded two singles so far, “Mind Your Manners” and “Sirens.” It was the band’s fifth Number One atop of the Billboard 200 this past October.
