The past year has been turbulent for Black Sabbath fans: In October, one year after announcing plans to record a second comeback LP, the metal pioneers scrapped the idea, choosing to focus on their lengthy farewell tour dubbed “The End.” Now, frontman Ozzy Osbourne has explained his rationale for the album cancelation, telling Australian site news.com.au, “People aren’t really interested in hearing new stuff.”

Elaborating on “the end of Sabbath,” Osbourne also blamed time constraints: “If we were to do an album before the tour – it would take three or four years to complete the album,” he said. “We want to end it on a high note.” The band’s last LP, 13, came out in 2013.

Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi recently cited a different reason for nixing the LP. “I’ve got so many riffs,” he told Q. “I wrote a whole load of stuff for another album, and we met up in L.A. but the others … well, [bassist] Geezer [Butler] didn’t particularly want to do another album.”

Osbourne also clarified to news.com.au he isn’t retiring after doing “pretty well for 35 years.”

“I’m going to do a solo album and a solo tour,” he said. “I mean, my wife’s a shop-a-holic, always off buying fucking shoes or something, so I’ve got to keep the money coming somehow.”
