‘One More Time’ Singer Romanthony Dead at 45

Romanthony, the house producer and DJ who sang the hook on Daft Punk‘s 2000 single “One More Time,” died on May 7th at the age of 45. According to Spin, Romanthony’s family confirmed that he died from complications of kidney disease.

The New Jersey native, whose real name was Anthony Moore, began releasing records on his own label, Black Male Records, in 1992. His early singles included “Make This Love Right” and “Let Me Show You Love.” In 1996, he released the album Romanworld through Azuli Records and went on to create two albums for the Glasgow Underground label, 1999’s Instinctual (in collaboration with DJ Predator) and Hide in Plain Site in 2000.

The following year, Daft Punk released their second album, Discovery, which featured Romanthony’s autotuned vocals on the lead single, “One More Time.” Romanthony also sang on the closing track, “Too Long” and is listed as a co-writer on both songs. “One More Time” took off to become a defining dance-floor hit of the era, particularly in France and Canada, where it topped the singles chart, and the U.K., where it hit Number Two.

Romanthony continued collaborating with other producers, including recent work with Boys Noize. “Romanthony and me were working on such an amzing song together…He said it was the best song he had ever written,” the Berlin-based DJ-producer Tweeted Sunday morning. “Romanthony was a big inspiration for many djs of us. his voice was the most touching in House music.”
