One Direction Sued Over Name

One Direction are being sued by an American band with the same name, the BBC reports. Lawyers for the California band are seeking an injunction to stop the British boy band from using the name, and they want $1 million in compensation and a share of the group’s profits.
Legal papers filed in California Central District Court on Monday allege that the boy band’s labels, Syco and Sony Music, were aware of the American band but proceeded with the name regardless, ignoring their rights. The American band, who have been using the name since 2009, claim the emergence of the boy band in the United States has caused them “substantial confusion and substantial damage.”
