Earlier this year, Ohio State quarterback/Sherman Tank Cardale Jones proclaimed his love for Ronda Rousey during the ESPY Awards and made a half-hearted attempt to score a date.

While it didn’t exactly work out, Rousey caught wind of his flirty tweets the following day and responded to a number of his questions before complimenting him on his manners. And thanks to the exchange, she’s now all aboard the 12 Gauge bandwagon.

Hoping to achieve similar success (and perhaps even more), Jones’ crop-top wearing teammate Ezekiel Elliott is looking to meet up with Taylor Swift when her 1989 Tour rolls into Columbus tonight. But, unfortunately for him, he’s not getting quite as lucky – it looks like Swift is too busy digging Ryan Adams’ cover album and making shower jokes between performances.

Because those Buckeyes are persevering fellows, Elliott pressed on. He joked about honoring the pop superstar during tomorrow’s game against Northern Illinois by switching to jersey No. 13 – which Swift numerologists will no doubt recognize as her favorite number. But after his teammate who usually rocks that number called him a bum, Elliott was quick to reassure the universe that it was a friendly joke.

Sorry, Tay Tay.

Elliott’s also using his coach’s celebrity to gain an edge. He brought Urban Meyer into the picture by asking if Swift could get an invite to the team dinner on Friday and graciously offered to keep her entertained. Still, no cigar.

It’s probably time for Elliott to ask Jones for some pointers. After all, he has a way of achieving the impossible.
