Obama Shrugs Off Nicki Minaj’s Romney ‘Endorsement’ Rap

‘She likes to play different characters,’ president tells radio station

The verdict is still out on Nicki Minaj’s seeming endorsement of Mitt Romney on Lil Wayne’s recent Dedication 4 mixtape, but President Obama told Orlando, Florida, radio station Power 95.3 this morning that he’s not convinced the rapper is endorsing his Republican opponent.

“Yeah, I’m not sure that’s actually what happened,” Obama said. “I think she had a song on there, a little rap that said that. But she likes to play different characters. So I don’t know what’s going on there.” Either way, Minaj might have to up her game to lock down the First Family demographic: the president revealed his daughters don’t have the rapper on constant rotation. “I don’t think they really listen to Nicki Minaj that much,” he said. “But let’s face it, they are now hipper than me. There’s a certain point where your kids get old enough where they’re hipper than you are.”

On the track “Mercy,” Minaj raps, “I’m a Republican, voting for Mitt Romney/ You lazy bitches is fuckin’ up the economy.” The lines have stirred speculation on the rapper’s political affiliations, though The Washington Post last week determined that she’s not registered to vote.
