In this week’s slate of Rolling Stone reviews, Jody Rosen raves about Florence and the Machine’s “dark, robust and romantic” second album, Ceremonials, which showcases Florence Welch’s powerhouse voice as well as the chops of her band, who “channel garage-rock camaraderie into a huge, lashing sound more fit for an Olympian mountain peak than a garage.” Also, Chuck Eddy says that Metallica turn Lou Reed’s pretentions into something heavy and muscular on their collaborative album Lulu, and Simon Vozick-Levinson praises the Black Keys’ badass new single “Lonely Boy.”
