New Foo Fighters Album Will Be ‘Full On’ Heavy, Dave Grohl Says

There’s not one acoustic guitar — there’s not even one in the house,’ Foo frontman tells the BBC

“In the 14 songs, there’s not one acoustic guitar — there’s not even one in the house,” Dave Grohl said in a BBC radio interview about the upcoming “heavy” Foo Fighters album. The yet-untitled LP reunites Grohl with two pals from his Nirvana days, Nevermind producer Butch Vig and bassist Krist Novoselic, who makes a guest appearance. “The last month and a half we’ve been recording in my garage, totally old-school analog.”

The project has been in the works since March, when Grohl told Rolling Stone he was demoing tracks with drummer Taylor Hawkins. “I think this could be our heaviest album yet,” he said. In August, the band tweeted a photo of Grohl in the studio with Novoselic. “This whole project has been really cool,” he told the BBC. “I haven’t made a record with Butch for 20 years.”

Random Notes: Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Elton John

Since the Foos’ 2007 LP, Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace, Grohl has been busy with Them Crooked Vultures, his supergroup with Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones. “The last two and a half years has been really fun but I miss it, I miss being in the Foo Fighters,” he said. The band will return to the stage in a big way this summer at the UK’s 65,000-capacity Milton Keynes Bowl July 2nd and 3rd.

“It’s weird to put the biggest show we’ve pretty much ever played on sale when we’re halfway done. … But I promise you the record will be done. We’re seven songs in with five or six more we’re gonna do,” Grohl said. The band is documenting the entire process. “We’re making a movie about this whole experience too. We have a director.”

“Basically, 2011, you’re not gonna be able to get us out of your hair,” the frontman promised. “That’s what we’re planning.”
