Neon Indian gets funky on his third LP, VEGA INTL. Night School, out October 16th via Mom and Pop/Transgressive. The electronic artist (real name Alan Palomo) will promote the 14-track album with a fall tour kicking off September 29th in Manor, Texas and concluding November 15th in Philadelphia.

Lead single “Slumlord” opens with a classical-leaning synth-piano pattern before settling into a propulsive, bass-heavy groove. “It goes on and on and on,” Palomo sings on a chorus reminiscent of vintage Daft Punk, before the song veers toward hazy, EQ-shifted keys that flirt with Neon Indian’s chillwave beginnings. Palomo shared another single, “Annie,” in May.

The revamped Neon Indian website features a hotline number, 512-643-VEGA, that includes information about the new album, audio samples of “Slumlord” and a greeting to fans. VEGA INTL. Night School, which follows 2011’s Era Extraña, is available to pre-order now via iTunes.

The new album – which teases the name of Palomo’s previous recording moniker, VEGA – was created over a four-year span, as the musician experimented with “funk-centric guitar lines [and] pronounced Balearic rhythms,” according to a statement. The LP was recorded at DFA’s New York studio Plantain, Pure X’s Austin practice space, Ben Allen’s Atlanta studio and a cruise ship cabin.

“Most of what I’ve learned about human nature in my Twenties has happened after dark,” Palomo said of the album’s theme. “People are just kind of more honest then. More deliberate. I like to call the places I go to Night Schools.”
