Neil Young Books Pair of Solo Acoustic Concerts In Los Angeles

A little less than three months after his stellar four-night stand at New York’s Carnegie Hall, Neil Young has announced plans for two shows at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on March 29th and 30th. The 3,401 seat venue — which was known as the Kodak Theater until — has been home to the Academy Awards for the past 14 years. Tickets go on sale Monday, February 24th at 10:00 a.m. PST. Prices range from $82.20 to $413.50.

While Young is notoriously unpredictable, it’s likely that the shows will be similar in format to his recent Carnegie Hall stand and the Canadian Honor the Treaties concerts that followed. Those eight shows were solo acoustic gigs and focused heavily on Young’s 1960s and 1970s catalog. Big hits like “Old Man” and “Heart of Gold” were mixed in with deeper cuts like “A Man Needs a Maid” and “Flying on the Ground Is Wrong.” 

Young recently told Rolling Stone that his new album A Letter Home is “one of the lowest tech experiences” of his entire career.” The disc — which may come out as early as March — was reportedly recorded at Jack White’s Third Man Records in Nashville, Tennessee. A note on Young’s website says that the disc is “an unheard collection of rediscovered songs from the past recorded on ancient electro mechanical technology captures and unleashes the essence of something that could have been gone forever.”

It’s unclear whether or not Young plans on performing more solo acoustic shows after these two Los Angeles gigs. He heads over to Europe with Crazy Horse in early July for a month-long run of concerts. It’ll be his first gigs with the band since guitarist Frank “Poncho” Sampedro’s hand injury forced them to cancel dates on their 2013 summer tour.
