Ned Flanders-Inspired Heavy Metal Act Drops Grim First Video
The Simpsons has served as a never-ending source of inspiration over its record-breaking run, fueling everything from theme park attractions and video games to Chance the Rapper songs and, now, a heavy metal band. As a tribute to the Simpsons’ pious, always-rhyming neighbor Ned Flanders, a group called Okilly Dokilly have uncorked their new video for “White Wine Spritzer.”
The track is off Okilly Dokilly’s album Howdilly Doodilly, named after Flanders’ trademark greeting. As evidenced by the video, the Phoenix quintet has even adopted Ned’s unchanging mustache, glasses and green sweater-with-pink-collared-shirt look.
Despite Flanders’ pleasant demeanor on The Simpsons, the “White Wine Spritzer” video is anything but neighborly as the five band members beat another Flanders lookalike to death and then bury him in the desert.
Keeping with the Flanders theme and taking a page out of the Ramones’ playbook, each band member has adopted a Ned name: singer Head Ned, drummer Bled Ned, guitarist Stead Ned, synth player Red Ned and bassist Thread Ned.
Howdilly Doodilly, which also features a track that references the obscure Simpsons joke “flanderdoodles,” is out Friday via their Bandcamp.
