My Bloody Valentine singer-guitarist Kevin Shields has revealed that the influential shoegaze band will release new music this year, NME reports. Shields says that the band's long-awaited third album, which was started in the mid-1990s, will be released first, with an EP of original material to follow. The new music would be MBV's first since the 1991 release of Loveless.

Shields has teased new MBV music for years without releasing actual material. This time, it appears that working on the recent remasterings of their back catalog convinced Shields to follow through. "I listened to the stacks of CDs and thought, 'Shit, this is better than the unreleased tracks on the compilation.' I decided it would be insane not to finish it," he told Mojo.

MBV will release three reissues on May 7th: EPs 1988-1991, a collection of rarities and unreleased material, and remastered versions of Loveless and 1988's Isn't Anything.
