Mona Start a Riot on ‘Torches and Pitchforks’ – Album Premiere

Nashville rockers churn through high-energy garage-rock

Nashville alt-rockers Mona are back with their second album, Torches and Pitchforks, a set of high-energy garage-rock the musicians produced themselves in the band’s basement studio.

The first single off the album, “Goons (Baby, I Need It All),” was inspired by Frank Sinatra’s 1958 statement to Congress declaring that rock & roll “is sung, played and written for the most part by cretinous goons.” The punky track features raspy yells from singer and guitarist Nick Brown and a chant-like chorus, along with a headbang-worthy guitar solo. In June, the band released a video for the song, set at a rowdy basement party.

Brown told Rolling Stone the group is excited for people to hear the album. “We are very pleased with it artistically and hope the fans enjoy it as much as we did making it.”

Torches and Pitchforks is due out July 23rd on Mercury Records, and available here for pre-order.
