Missy Elliott to Play First U.S. Concert Since 2008 at FYF Fest

Missy Elliott‘s only scheduled performance for 2017 will take place at the FYF Fest in Los Angeles in July. Frank Ocean, Nine Inch Nails, Björk, A Tribe Called Quest and Solange have also been tapped as headliners.
FYF will take place in Los Angeles’ Exposition Park from July 21st through July 23rd. Other performers include Erykah Badu, Iggy Pop, Run the jewels, MGMT, Perfume Genius, Cap’n Jazz, Mitski and more.
Elliott’s appearance is particularly significant. The legendary rapper has not played a concert in America since 2008 and was largely out of the music scene for years after being diagnosed with Graves’ disease. She announced her diagnosis in 2011. She has played international festivals and concerts since then, but her big return to the public arena was in 2015 when she was Katy Perry’s special guest during the pop star’s Super Bowl halftime show. There, Elliott performed a medley of three of her hits: “Get Ur Freak On,” “Work It” and “Lose Control.”
The major televised return reignited a boost in album and single sales for Elliott, and she began releasing new music. She first appeared on a remix of Jack Ü’s “Take Ü There” and collaborated with Pharrell Williams on “WTF (Where They From),” her first solo single since 2008’s “Shake Your Pom Pom.” Earlier this year, she released “I’m Better.” Elliott has been working in the studio with frequent collaborator Timbaland on her seventh studio album and her first LP since 2005’s The Cookbook.
In 2015, Frank Ocean had been tapped to headline FYF Fest after teasing the imminent release of his follow-up to Channel Orange but pulled out at the last minute. He was replaced by Kanye West.
