Midlake Go ‘Off Main St.’ in Texas Hometown – Premiere

Rockers show TV series around their local hangs

During episode two of Off Main St., which follows bands around their hometowns, the indie-rockers Midlake call Denton, Texas “a better place to live than visit.” They present the town as the kind of small community where people know each other, and the cost of living is low.

The show tracks the band – who just released the album Antiphon – around town to their favorite coffee shop as they try to barter for free cappuccino. Then they hang out at a record shop and drive past the house where they used to live together. Live performance footage of new songs is interspersed through the sightseeing tour, and the new tracks reveal themselves as more muscular and angular than their past folk-country fare; now they are venturing into post-punk and space-rock territories, echoing early Pink Floyd and Joy Division.

This fall, the band is set to cross paths with both Pearl Jam and the Flaming Lips on tour. Antiphon was released on November 5.
