Michael Jackson’s father has dropped his wrongful death suit against Conrad Murray, the doctor convicted of involuntary manslaughter for his role in the pop singer’s 2009 death, according to court documents obtained by TheWrap.

In documents filed in Los Angeles Superior Court earlier this week, Joe Jackson asked that the lawsuit be dismissed without prejudice. Jackson, who initially filed the suit in June 2010, was seeking unspecified damages and a jury trial.

No official word has come from Jackson or his attorney regarding why the suit was dropped.

Murray is currently serving a four-year prison sentence and has been stripped of his medical license after being convicted last year of having caused the singer’s death. During the trial prosecutors had argued that Murray had treated Jackson recklessly and that he abandoned the King of Pop after administering the anesthetic propofol the day he died.

“Dr. Murray repeatedly lied, engaged in deceitful misconduct and endeavored to cover up his transgressions,” Judge Michael Pastor said during Murray’s sentencing. “He violated the trust of the medical community, his colleagues and he has absolutely no sense of remorse.”
