Michael Jackson’s Doctor Conrad Murray Refused Rehearing

Yesterday, a California court of appeal announced that it would not grant Dr. Conrad Murray further rehearings on its ruling regarding the death of Michael Jackson. Murray was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in 2011 and subsequently sought a retrial. Last month, an appellate court upheld Murray’s conviction. Murray’s lawyer had requested a clarification in the 2014 ruling so as to prepare for an appeal with the California Supreme Court, according to Billboard.

The reason for the revision, the court said, was to clean up clerical and grammatical errors in the original ruling. Now, the document reads, “Appellant’s petition for rehearing is denied.”

The ruling last month said that the court had found substantial evidence leading to Murray’s guilt and that Murray had shown a “callous disregard” for the pop star’s well-being. It decided that the original trial had proven he had administrated dangerous drugs to Jackson and that Murray had “violated the trust” he had with Jackson in doing so. It also said that there were no procedural errors in the original trial, as Murray had said the original judge should have sequestered jurors from key evidence.

Following his 2011 conviction, Murray served two years of a four-year sentence but was released last October in an effort by the state of California to reduce prison overcrowding.
