Metric Descend Into Depths of Las Vegas in ‘The Governess’ Video
Emily Haines slouches across a ribbon of highway, through the Nevada desert and towards the gaudy, seedy glitz of Las Vegas in Metric‘s new video for “The Governess.”
Armed with her six-string, Haines sings and performs the stomping cut, which blends synth-pop production and elegiac guitars. During her travels, Haines stops to pick out the track on the steps of a rusted airstream and in front of the fuselage of an old plane, the only objects in sight in the vast Nevada desert.
These oases of detritus make for strange scenery, but no more surreal than the neon-lit universe Haines encounters in the depths of the Las Vegas strip. Haines keeps a straight, slightly bemused face as she paces through a parade of costumed characters, advertisements, bright lights and one over-eager tourist who zips in front of her with a Go-Pro camera in hand.
“The Governess” appears on Metric’s new album, Pagans in Vegas, which arrived in September. The group is touring North America through December 18th, after which, they’ll break for a few months before embarking on another leg, February 12th, 2016 at the House of Blues in Chicago.
