Metric Blast Entertainment Industry on Slick, Sardonic ‘Lie Lie Lie’

Band launches “Pagans Portal” app with exclusive song streams ahead of new album release

Metric have offered up another song from their upcoming LP, Pagans In Vegas, “Lie Lie Lie,” a slick, punchy takedown of the vapidity of the entertainment industry and its foundational falsehoods.

While previous Pagans In Vegas tracks have been rife with glitchy synths, “Lie Lie Lie” is centered around ominous, intertwining guitar riffs. The song is still cut through with synths that pulse and spit like lasers, but its more stripped-down rock sound provides the perfect base for singer Emily Haines’ deceptively soft, bitterly sardonic lyrics. “If it happened, it was meant to be, offer me a free lobotomy / Got to be sedated to be seen, on the cover of your magazine,” Haines croons with a curl in her voice at the start of the song.

“Lie Lie Lie” is currently available only to download in Canada, though it can also be heard on Metric’s new app, “The Pagan Portal,” which is available to download for iOS and Android. The app offers fans the chance to unlock streams of songs from Pagans In Vegas prior to its September 18th release.

Metric have offered up a number of Pagans In Vegas cuts since announcing their follow-up to 2012’s Synthetica. The group first shared “The Shade,” which was later given a surreal video that blended footage of the band performing on a rooftop with nature scenes, clips of riot police and a trash heap piled with relics of the Internet age. Other previously released Pagans cuts include, “Cascades,” “Too Bad, So Sad” and “Fortunes.”

Metric spent much of the summer on the road opening for Imagine Dragons and are currently scheduled to play the Made In America Festival in Philadelphia this Labor Day weekend. The band will embark on a European tour afterward, but have a handful of North American festival dates scheduled as well, including the Life is Beautiful Festival in Las Vegas on September 26th and the Voodoo Festival in New Orleans on October 30th.
