Metallica Set Release Date for 3-D Film

Metallica have slated August 9th for the release of their 3D concert film, Metallica Through the Never, which was filmed in Vancouver last August. Since then, the band has been sifting through the footage with director Nimród Antal and a group of editors to piece the movie together.

Footage for the film was captured over three shows jam-packed with massive pyrotechnics displays, 12 floating coffins and even “planned malfunctions,” including crew members feigning injuries. The band sold tickets for the final show – a fundraiser for the Vancouver Food Bank – for just $5 as the set would be broken up to accommodate extra filming. Combining concert footage with a fictional dramatic storyline, Through the Never will be decidedly different than Metallica’s first film, Some Kind of Monster, which showed a band struggling to get back on their feet and along with each other, following the departure of former bassist Jason Newsted and James Hetfield’s return from rehab.

The band also announced that the independent marketing and distribution company, Picturehouse (which has released indie hits like My Big Fat Greek Wedding and The Passion of the Christ) will help bring the film to theaters.

“It goes without saying that we are really just getting rolling here and will have many more updates for you,” Metallica wrote on their website. “And of course, we can’t wait for you to see the film!!”
