Meek Mill Sentenced for Probation Violation

Meek Mill has been sentenced following a probation-violating trip to Los Angeles with girlfriend Nicki Minaj for the American Music Awards last November. The Philly rapper was found guilty of traveling without adhering to the guidelines stipulated in terms of his probation.
Mill will serve 90 days under house arrest and six months parole beginning March 1st. He will be unable to work during the time he is on house arrest. In 2014, Mill was found guilty of a similar violation and was put in jail until December, just before Minaj released The Pinkprint with a pair of guest features from him.
Mill’s legal troubles began in 2008 when he was booked on drug and gun charges. He spent 18 months incarcerated before spending five years on probation. His 2014 sentence was due to the rapper booking out-of-town concerts without permission and failing to provide his probation officer with a working number. He has also been ordered to take etiquette, anger management and parenting classes.
Minaj testified on Mill’s behalf in December and told the judge she believed she had been a positive influence on him since he was last released from prison. “[The parole office’s] not going to be the one sleeping alone if he goes to jail. I am,” she said. “He’s not perfect, but I can’t believe how much he’s changed.”
Minaj also offered to help Mill fulfull his community service requirement. “He doesn’t have a lot of structure. He can be irresponsible,” she said. “Since I’ve come into his life, I think I’ve been working on that a little bit… He’s just getting accustomed to being an adult.”
