Mayer Hawthorne Hopes for a ‘Love Like That’ on Endearing New Song

Mayer Hawthorne has shared an effervescent, disco-tinged new track, “Love Like That,” the first official single from his new album, Man About Town.
“Love Like That” is classic blue-eyed soul based around a percolating bass, bouncing keyboard and an infectiously silly synth line that slinks through the chorus while Hawthorne croons, “I want a love like that / I want a love / Strong like a heart attack / To fire me up.”
The track bears a sonic resemblance to Hall and Oates, who Hawthorne will fittingly open for at Madison Square Garden on February 19th. The singer is also scheduled to play Hangout Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama in May, and will announce more tour dates soon.
Man About Town is set to arrive April 8th via Vagrant Records. The singer-songwriter produced much of the album and played almost every instrument as well. Pre-orders are available via iTunes and come with instant downloads of “Love Like That” and the previously released “Cosmic Love.”
Man About Town marks Hawthorne’s first solo album since 2013’s Where Does This Door Go, though the musician has been hardly silent since, releasing two collaborative albums in as many years. He first teamed with producer 14KT to form the synth-pop group, Jaded Incorporated, which released The Big Knock in 2014; while the following year, Hawthorne and Seattle MC Jake One released a self-titled album as Tuxedo.
The singer also released a trailer for Man About Town, viewable below.
