A statement posted to the singer’s website says that doctors have advised Maxwell to take a complete vocal rest and undergo treatment for vocal cord edema and a vocal cord hemorrhage.

“I know this sucks but after many months of recording I’ve temporarily damaged my voice,” Maxwell says in the statement. “I’ve had issues before during other tours but was able to power through.”

Maxwell had planned to perform his entire discography over the two-night stop on each leg of the tour, hitting Los Angeles, Atlanta and Newark. He says that he hopes to embark on a full-fledged tour upon the release of his new album later this year. Ticketholders for the summer concerts will receive refunds.
