Amy Winehouse‘s father has taken to Twitter to deliver his verdict on the new cover of his daughter’s 2007 hit “Back to Black” by Andre 3000 and Beyoncé.

“I just heard the Andre part of Back to Black. Terrible,” Mitch Winehouse Tweeted. “He should have let Beyonce do it all.”

Winehouse also reportedly dismissed Beyoncé’s role in the track in comments to the Daily Mail. “I don’t think she brings anything to it,” the paper quotes him as saying. “I wasn’t asked for my permission if they could record it.” The Daily Mail says that Winehouse eventually agreed to the song’s use, but said, “They have got to pay for the privilege, which is what they are doing. I can’t tell you how much it is but it’s a lot of money.”

Someone close to the original version offered a more positive opinion of the cover, however. Mark Ronson, who produced and co-wrote the song with Amy Winehouse, praised the new version as he debuted it on his EastVillageRadio show on Friday night.

“It’s a wonderful sort of take on our song,” Ronson said. “I’m flattered and honoured. I know Amy would be too.”

The cover was recorded for the Jay-Z-produced soundtrack to The Great Gatsby. The album comes out on May 7th, but you can listen to a (heavy tagged) radio rip of the song below.
