Eight board members who were fired from Madonna‘s Raising Malawi charity organization are suing for unfair dismissal and non-payment of their benefits. Madonna ousted the board of directors after plans were scrapped to build a $15 million school for impoverished girls in Malawi due to severe financial mismanagement. The board members were accused by auditors of extravagant expenditures on cars, housing and various luxuries.
According to Mzondi Chirambo, the former board members’ lawyer, Madonna went over a 14-day limit to respond to their concerns, and insists that they sign a discriminatory termination agreement before paying out benefits. The workers who were dismissed include the chief executive of the unbuilt school and a handful of Kabbalah mystics.
